| The tradition of taking an "over-the-top" field trip with the Tolar 5th Grade Choir was started in 2005 with a trip to Houston to attend John Jacobson's America Sings. This event has not been held in Texas since that year and because of that, the choir now travels to San Antonio to and event called Trills and Thrills. |
Our experiences thus far have been more than wonderful and well worth the effort it akes to get there. As stated by the SYTA (Student and Youth Travel Association), "Travel provides life lessons, enrichment and personal growth for our youth." My hope is that all the 5th grade students this year are able to attend this and continue this meaningful tradition. The event is held May 9th - 11th, 2008. Unfortunately, this falls on Mother's Day weekend. The other choice we had was during the Cinco de Mayo Celebration in San Antonio and because the safety for our children and ourselves is certainly considered, the May 10th date was chosen. |
The students perform a short concert before judges and are critiqued on their performance to earn a plaque and a ribbon for their efforts. After this, the students join many other Trills and Thrills choirs and bands for a day at Fiesta Texas. |
While in San Antonio, we stay at the Holiday Inn Downtown, visit the Riverwalk and the Alamo, eat a wonderful meal at a high profile restaurant, and try to take advantage of the many cultually diverse opportunities the city has to offer. |
I believe this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the children and their families an encourage everyone to attend.
Joyfully,
Mrs. McAusland |
